NFIB Honors Representative Brian Baker
with Guardian of Small Business Award
Missouri small-business owners recognize Baker’s pro-business efforts
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., August 20, 2007 – The National Federation of Independent Business/Missouri today honored State Representative Brian Baker (Belton) with a Guardian of Small Business Award for his efforts to support and encourage small-business growth and entrepreneurship in Missouri.
Representative Baker has served as a member of the Missouri legislature since 2002 and has earned a 100 percent NFIB voting record for supporting small-business on key legislative issues. Baker is the assistant pastor and ministry director for the First Baptist Church in Belton and is currently a member of the Belton Corporation for Economic Development, Raymore Chamber of Commerce, and Belton Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the Raymore Economic Development Host Team.
During his tenure he served four years on the House Small Business Committee. He also served as chairman of the Special Committee on School Finance & Student Achievement. Baker is also a member of the Special Committee on Rural Community Development and currently is the Vice-Chairman of the House Education-Appropriations Committee overseeing the state dollars received by Missouri public schools. One of his most memorable accomplishments for small business was his sponsorship of the Missouri Small Business Regulatory Fairness Act. The SBRFA allows businesses a venue to challenge burdensome state regulations imposed by state agencies. It further allows those businesses a chance to seek a judicial review if the state agency

The Guardian of Small Business Award is NFIB’s most prestigious award for legislators and is reserved for those lawmakers who maintain an outstanding pro-small-business voting record. The NFIB Leadership Council, which is comprised of small business owners from around Missouri, selected the recipients.
